The Materials and Manufacturing Futures Institute offers a variety of research and consultation services to help your team or organisation achieve exceptional results. From fundamental material analysis through to full product prototyping, or if you just need a bit of expert-peer advice, our team has you covered.

In a fast-moving world of innovation and disruption, Research and Development ('R&D') is an investment in the future of your company, industry and employees. Whatever your engineering challenge, idea or application, our team and facilities are equipped to provide assistance throughout the entire process. MMFI's expert knowledge will ensure your organisation remains contemporary and competitive with the MMFI team committed to helping you discover and implement innovative solutions in real-world scenarios.

We specialise in material sciences, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, photovoltaics and renewables, energy storage, energy management, built environment, electrical engineering, telecommunications and much more. From inception to design, to prototyping and production-line manufacturing and product testing, our team will be with you every step of the way. We will work with you from the ground-up and, if required, assist with the adaption of existing projects.

Material analysis is an essential step in the quality control process of any manufacturing cycle. All manufactured components need to be tested and have their material properties identified, like material structure (e.g. crystalline structure), material characteristics (e.g. surface morphologies and properties) and material performance. The benefits of thoroughly analysing and understanding the properties of a material extend far beyond manufacturing—it guarantees a safe, effective and reliable application. Testing material properties can assist in the research & development process, prevent failures in the field and anticipate issues before they arise, which is very significant when it comes to safety, e.g. a car’s chassis or an airplane turbine.

Our team will help identify your organisation's specific material testing needs and offer expert knowledge and experience to ensure your application is safe, reliable and effective. Below is a non-exhaustive list of our specific analysis capabilities:

  • Mineral identification - identification and mapping of titania phases (Raman)
  • Spectrophotometric assays (UV-Vis).
  • X-Ray Powder Diffraction analysis
  • Electron microscopy characterization (SEM,TEM,STEM)
  • AI simulation
  • 3D scanning and modelling
  • 3D printing (metal and plastic)
  • Hall effect measurement (AC & DC)
  • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) Analysis
  • Physical property measurements
  • Magnetic property measurements (with ≤10-8 emu sensitivity.)
  • Thermal property measurements
  • Electrical property measurements
  • Mechanical property measurements
